Nebraska volleyball fans are in for a treat in 2024. The Huskers will face some of the best teams in the nation, both from the Big Ten and the newly added Pac-12 schools. On Thursday, the Big Ten Conference announced its Nebraska volleyball conference schedule rotation for the 2024 season.
Nebraska will host two new members in Lincoln — USC and UCLA — while travelling to the other first-time conference teams, Oregon and Washington.
A Challenging but Exciting Schedule
The Huskers will play three home and away opponents – Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin. These are the only three teams Nebraska will play twice.
The opponents playing Nebraska inside the Bob Devaney Sports Center include Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Purdue, Rutgers, UCLA, and USC. Nebraska will travel to Maryland, Michigan State, Northwestern, Oregon, Ohio State, Penn State, and Washington.
The schedule will be a 20-game schedule with ten home games and ten away games, even though the conference will expand to 18 teams with the addition of the Pac-12 schools.
The double-play opponents were determined with consideration for competitive balance, geography, and rivalries. Each Big Ten school in the Central and Eastern time zones will make a single trip to the Pacific time zone during the season.
The Huskers will have to face tough competition from the old and the new Big Ten teams. Wisconsin, Minnesota, Penn State, and Washington are among the top 10 teams in the nation according to the latest AVCA Coaches Poll.
USC, UCLA, and Oregon are ranked in the top 25, while Michigan, Purdue, and Ohio State receive votes[^2^][2]. Nebraska is currently ranked No. 5 in the poll, behind only Wisconsin, Minnesota, Texas, and Kentucky
A Chance to Prove Themselves and Make History
Nebraska volleyball has a rich history of success and excellence. The Huskers have won five national championships, the most recent in 2017. They have also won 10 Big Ten titles, including four from 2016 to 2019.
Huskers have made 39 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, the longest active streak in the nation. They have produced 92 All-Americans, 17 Academic All-Americans, and three national players of the year.
The Huskers can add to their legacy and make history in 2024. Huskers will face some of the best programs in the country, both from the Big Ten and the Pac-12. They must overcome the challenges of travelling across time zones, playing in unfamiliar venues, and adapting to different play styles.
They will have to showcase their skills, talent, and teamwork against some of the sport’s most talented and experienced players and coaches. But they will also have a chance to prove themselves and make a statement.
Huskers will have the opportunity to show the nation and the world that they are still one of the elite teams in college volleyball. They will have a chance to win their sixth national championship and 11th Big Ten title. They will have the opportunity to create new memories, new rivalries, and new fans.
