From Virginia Beach to Boiling Springs

Hannah Donaldson was born and raised in Virginia Beach, Va., where she attended Ocean Lakes High School. She started playing volleyball when she was ten and soon fell in love with the sport.

She played for her school and Coastal VA, a club team that competed in national tournaments and she was a four-year starter and a two-time captain for her high school team and earned several honors, including All-District, All-Region, and All-State selections.

Hannah also excelled academically, graduating with a 4.0 GPA and being named a National Merit Scholar. Several colleges recruited Hannah, but she chose Gardner-Webb University, a private Christian university in Boiling Springs, N.C. She was impressed by the campus, the coaching staff, and the academic programs.

Hannah also liked that Gardner-Webb was a small school with a close-knit community. She enrolled in 2020 and decided to major in biology with a minor in chemistry. She hopes to pursue a career in medicine after graduation.

A Valuable Member of the Runnin’ Bulldogs

Hannah immediately impacted the Gardner-Webb volleyball team, earning a starting spot as a freshman. Hannah played in all 29 matches and led the team in blocks, points, and service aces. She was named the Big South Freshman of the Week twice and the Big South Player once.

She also received honors from the Big South All-Freshman Team and the Big South All-Academic Team. Hannah continued to improve her game in her sophomore and junior seasons, becoming one of the most dominant middle blockers in the conference.

Hannah ranked among the top 10 in the Big South in hitting percentage, blocks, and points. She was selected to the All-Big South First Team and the Big South All-Academic Team in both seasons. She also earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team at the Wofford Invitational in 2021, with 14 blocks and 24 kills on .406 hitting.

Hannah is now in her senior season and determined to lead her team to success. Hannah is the captain and the vocal leader of the Runnin’ Bulldogs, currently in fourth place in the Big South standings and she is averaging 2.83 kills, 1.17 blocks, and 0.50 aces per set while hitting .312.

She has recorded ten or more kills in 12 matches and five blocks in nine games. She has also reached several milestones, including 1,000 career points, 500 career kills, and 300 career blocks.

A Role Model On and Off the Court

Hannah is not only a star athlete but also a model student and a caring person and she maintains a 3.97 GPA and is a member of the Honors Program, the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society, and the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society.

Hannah is also involved in various campus activities, such as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Gardner-Webb Volleyball Camps. She volunteers at the local hospital, the animal shelter, and the elementary school.

She is passionate about helping others and making a difference in the world. Hannah is an inspiration to many people, especially young girls who aspire to play volleyball and she is humble, hardworking, and dedicated to her sport and studies.
